Lasers aren’t always the most enjoyable of skin procedures—a zap here and a rubber band snap–feeling there doesn’t exactly equate to a relaxing treatment. But, one look at some of the results will have most people signing up—stat—even with the discomfort factor.
But not all lasers are made the same. And they all certainly don’t deliver the same results. As Angie, a personal trainer and self-confessed beauty addict can attest “I have tried over a dozen different lasers and lived to tell the tale!” Here are some of her hits and misses.

GIVE THIS ONE A MISS
One of the very first few lasers Angie tried was a cheap laser package advertised at her neighbourhood GP. It came in a package of 10 and each laser session costs less than a hundred bucks. Despite her initial misgivings, the price proved too attractive for her to give it a miss. On her very first session, she was horrified that she had to wash her own face. The doctor merely came in to administer the laser which was over in less than 5 minutes. When asked what laser this was, she was told this was a laser toning which could treat everything— pigment, pores and pimples. Furthermore, the doctor encouraged her to utilize her package quickly by coming in daily. By the end of the first week, Angie was mortified to discover tiny white spots on her face— a side effect of the frequent, low-quality laser. She never went back to the clinic again.
THIS ONE MADE THE DIFFERENCE
“I took a year long hiatus from laser after that painful lesson” explained Angie. That was, until she heard of BB Aquatouch from her friends who had tried it and was raving about it. Unlike laser toning. BB Aquatouch does not focus on pigment cells but on renewing the skin layers to encourage healthier, and more youthful skin growth. The fact that the laser does not focus on pigmentary cells also meant less risk of side effects such as hypopigmentation.
SW1’s medical director, Dr Kenneth Lee, explains “BB Aquatouch is a non-ablative fractional thulium laser. The 1927nm wavelength allows us to treat superficial skin layers which in case will improve all aspects of your complexion. The main mechanism of action on your skin is by stimulating the growth of new, healthy skin cells from the inside out.”

“I could feel small pin pricks as the laser swept across my face,” Angie said. “Fifteen minutes after the procedure my face was flushed by by the time I reached home, my pinkness had subsided.”
With each passing day, Angie became more of a convert. And by the end of the first week, she was firmly won over. Angie says she “can’t recommend it enough” and it really did a number to clear up her scarring and pigmentation issues after just one session. But best of all, it gave her skin an airbrush effect, Much like what you would have if you used a filter over an instagram photo, she exclaims!
“I can’t wait to do it again, the pain was worth it.”
